During my internship at Urbanism Planning Architecture Italia, Paolo Lettieri's architectural firm, I had the opportunity to work on the design of his first monograph, “Paolo Lettieri. Architectures in the Middle East, Europe and Asia,” a volume that inaugurates a new editorial section called “MONO,” within the reFRAME series published by Altralinea Edizioni. This section aims to highlight the dialogue between territories and architecture through the eyes of skilled professionals, shedding light on the cultural and infrastructural transformations of complex and fascinating places.
My main challenge was to develop a graphic concept that remained consistent with the identity of the reFRAME series while introducing a distinctive visual character for the MONO section, allowing it to stand out with its own personality. This design framework will serve as the foundation for future publications dedicated to other professionals in the field.
The book retraces the key stages of Paolo Lettieri’s career, showcasing his most significant projects in diverse and complex contexts such as healthcare, hospitality, education, and mixed-use.
Each chapter is introduced by a dialogue between Paolo Lettieri and Walter Vallini, the editorial director of the reFRAME series, creating a narrative thread that weaves through the various architectural typologies.
The monograph is enriched by an introduction from architectural critic Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi, who describes Lettieri’s dynamic and rational approach, always mindful of a measured interaction between creative expression and the local context.
